TAG Rugby Inclusion Project

TAG Rugby inclusion

The rugby inclusion project offers a significant opportunity for people with learning disabilities to participate in an enjoyable form of non-contact sport.

Tag rugby is a fun and exciting game that both male and female players of all ages and abilities can enjoy. It can be played with as few as five players. Players wear tag belts around their waist and two Velcro tags are attached at the hip. Through participation the team game helps build self-confidence, social interaction, friendships and team spirit whilst being a meaningful and enjoyable activity that improves health and fitness.

Affinity Trust in Herefordshire invites players to join them at weekly sessions of tag rugby across the county. High quality coaching is provided for people with learning disabilities to participate in training sessions, team games, and tournaments with further opportunities for them to become volunteers and support more junior teams.

Shrewsbury is the latest rugby football club in the area to host a weekly session and create a club based opportunity for the people we support to get involved in. The project’s formative team, the Telford Rugby Rebels, welcomed one and all on launch night at the Shrewsbury Castle ground.
