Budding journalist in the making
Through a person-centred approach, one of our aims is to support adults with learning disabilities to develop their skills, particularly in areas where they may already have an existing interest.
David – who is supported by one of our North Division’s opportunities services – has a keen interest in writing. Recently, he put this hobby into practice and developed a newsletter for the benefit of other service users in the area.
Through his newsletter, David – who both writes and edits the service bulletin – aims to cover as much news as possible from the Leeds opportunities service. By sharing his thoughts, David hopes other adults supported in Leeds will get an even greater insight into what their friends are getting out of the service.
Features in David’s newsletter include a report on the service’s Christmas party – which took place in December – a rundown of upcoming events in 2014 and a Q&A of one of the area’s operations managers.
David has even allocated space in the publication for some of his favourite jokes, which he hopes will put a smile on many readers’ faces.
David both researched and edited the newsletter and is aiming to produce more editions in the future, highlighting other areas of the service’s work.
