Affinity Trust Leeds Opportunities win football tournament
The Affinity Trust Opportunities Hub in Leeds are celebrating the success of their team that won a football competition organised as part of Leeds Learning Disability week.
Nine of the people supported by the Opportunities Hub took part. The competition was based around the Premier League and Affinity Trust was allocated ‘Hull City’ (not a great omen as the real Hull City has just been relegated). However the team got off to a good start, playing ‘Newcastle’ and drawing 2-2. They then lost to ‘Manchester United’ who won 1-0, but were not downhearted and drew 1-1 with ‘Manchester City’. They then qualified them for the Fair Play Cup and played 2 more games and got to the Final against ‘Swansea’.This was a nerve wracking match and at full time the score was 2-2. However, the team kept their nerve and won 5-4 after sudden death penalties.
Opportunities Support Manager Matthew Barber said’ It is a great achievement, they were all really dedicated and worked brilliantly together as a team. We now have to decide where to display the trophy to best advantage – which is a nice problem to have.’
