Affinity Trust’s South Division has received a ‘good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The service provides support to people with learning disabilities, and some with additional mental health or physical needs, across Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey and Portsmouth. They achieved a ‘good’ score in all five areas of inspection, these being: safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led.
At the time of the inspection, from February 17th-19th, the CQC spoke with five people we support and observed the interaction between them and staff. Their report said: “People were supported by support workers who demonstrated kindness, thoughtfulness and compassion.” One person supported said: “I like the staff, they do the things I want”.
Although some of the people supported that the inspectors spoke with were nonverbal, “Staff understood people’s wishes and interests, and respected their differences.”
All staff at Affinity Trust are trained to achieve the nationally recognised ‘Care Certificate’, and then take on additional training in order to provide tailored support to each person. In the CQC report, one support worker told the inspectors: “I love the training, it has made me a better carer” and described the training as “Fantastic”. The CQC report stated that: “A recent training report demonstrated that staff training had been completed and refreshed regularly to ensure people were supported by skilled staff.”
