Wendy and Matthew to the rescue!

Wendy and Matthew, two people we support in Bedford, were calm and confident when their support Jill became trapped in the bathroom. The door was stuck fast, and nothing was moving it. It was clear that Jill would need help to get her out.

At first, Jill asked Wendy to pass her phone under the door, but it didn’t fit. Then Matthew phoned someone who was unable to help. There was only one thing left to do: phone 999.

Matthew phoned the emergency services, remaining clear and confident as he answered all the questions. Wendy too stayed calm and kept checking Jill was okay. She waited downstairs for the fire service, bringing them up to the bathroom when they arrived a short time later. They were able to release Jill, who was none the worse for her escapades.

Jill said: “They were both amazing. They proved that having a disability doesn’t stop you doing anything.”
