Supporting Graham at work: video transcript
Pete, support worker:
Graham volunteers here once a week in the office. Helps them with their paperwork, catches his own bus. It’s about a six-mile trip to the office where I meet him here.
How are you?
Graham:
OK.
Pete:
Graham’s a very solitary person. He enjoys his games, DVDs. But also he’s very entertaining, and he can be a very fun person to work with. It’s beneficial for him to get out and socialise and interact, whether it is just the bus driver or the staff here in the office. Otherwise he would just still be sat at home.
Graham:
Yeah, I come here. I like my work. Peter helps me. I do letters. Fold them and post them. Take them to the office. Give to Mandy. I like it here.
Mandy:
Hello.
Graham:
Hi.
Mandy:
How did it go, alright. OK. Thank you very much. OK.
Graham:
Yes.
Mandy:
Are you going to go back that way?
Pete:
What I get out of it is, it’s very satisfying. And when you work at a certain project or a task and when it actually works, when it actually comes together, you know, it’s really rewarding.
Mandy:
Bye Graham, see you next week.
Pete:
Bye.
