Transforming Care in Leicestershire timeline
Affinity Trust, Leicestershire County Council and local NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups are working in partnership to develop a new housing scheme for people with learning disabilities being discharged from hospital.
November 2018
Affinity Trust decides to invest in this project.
Affinity Trust talks to Leicestershire County Council about working together to develop new housing. Affinity Trust is one of Leicestershire’s lead providers and had worked with them on a previous Transforming Care project.
January 2019
Affinity Trust meets the NHS regional housing leads to talk about how to develop new housing and the possibility of grant funding from the NHS.
Affinity Trust starts to look for suitable sites in Leicestershire.
February 2019
Affinity Trust finds a bungalow on a three-quarter-acre site in a semi-rural location in Markfield. The site is being sold at auction.
March 2019
After consultation with the local authority, Affinity Trust’s Board of Trustees agrees to buy the property.
Affinity Trust makes the winning bid for the site.
Affinity Trust works with the local authority and local NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups to apply to NHS England for funding.
Affinity Trust appoints architects to design options for the local authority and NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups to consider. One is to redevelop the site; the other is to demolish the building and build four new purpose- built bungalows.
August 2019
All involved agree to go for the second option.
As part of its grant application, Affinity Trust pilots the new learning disability housing design guide. These are standards the NHS has set to improve the quality of buildings it funds.
Affinity Trust is also piloting the Design Quality Indicator process for use in accommodation for people with learning disabilities. This is a quality assurance process used by the NHS.
September 2019
Workshops are held with Affinity Trust, NHS and local authority stakeholders to quality-assure the design.
October 2019
Affinity Trust submits its grant application.
November 2019
Affinity Trust is awarded £1m by the NHS to build the bungalows.
Hinckley and Bosworth Council give planning permission for the scheme.
March 2020
Work begins on site.
