Affinity Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Kerry Dearden as our new Chief Executive Officer, taking the reins in February 2025. Kerry will succeed Leo Sowerby, who is retiring after an incredible 18 years of service as CEO.

Kerry joins Affinity Trust with a wealth of experience in the social care sector. Having held senior leadership roles at The Orders of St John Care Trust and the Care Quality Commission, she has a proven track record of driving quality and innovation that improve the quality of life and support for vulnerable people. Kerry’s values, expertise, and passion align perfectly with Affinity Trust’s purpose of supporting people to live their lives their way.

Reflecting on her appointment, Kerry said:
“I am truly honored to be joining Affinity Trust as its next CEO. Our mission to support individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs is both inspiring and essential, and I am excited to contribute to building on the incredible work already being done. I am excited to work with the talented and passionate team at Affinity Trust to build on Leo’s incredible legacy and continue delivering impactful and innovative support.

As we look to the future, I see exciting opportunities for Affinity Trust to grow and broaden its reach, enabling us to support more individuals and families across the country solidifying Affinity Trust's position as a leading voice in supporting people to thrive and live the life they choose”

Leo Sowerby’s leadership over the past 18 years has been nothing short of transformative. Since taking on the role of CEO in 2007, Leo has overseen the charity’s significant growth and its continued dedication to providing high-quality, person-centred support. As he prepares to retire, Leo shared his reflections on his time at Affinity Trust:

"It has been an absolute privilege to lead Affinity Trust and to work alongside such talented colleagues and the inspiring people we support. I am immensely proud of everything we have achieved together. I am confident that Kerry’s experience and vision will take the organisation to new heights."

Tanya Barron, Chair of Trustees at Affinity Trust, paid tribute to Leo’s exceptional contributions and expressed her excitement for the future:
"Leo’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping Affinity Trust into the organisation it is today. His dedication and vision will leave a lasting legacy. As we welcome Kerry, we are confident that her expertise, energy, and commitment will ensure Affinity Trust continues to thrive and make a positive impact in the lives of people with learning disabilities."

This leadership transition marks an exciting new chapter for Affinity Trust. Under Kerry’s leadership, the organisation is well-positioned to build on its strong foundation and continue delivering exceptional support for people with learning disabilities across the UK.

We look forward to welcoming Kerry to Affinity Trust in February 2025 and celebrating Leo’s remarkable legacy.
